Spring Lawn Renovation - Colorado

STEP ONE

De-thatch or Power Rake! The purpose behind power raking is to remove the top layer of thatch from your grass. Some thatch is ok, but too much of it (more than ½”) will cause your grass to root into the thatch vs into the soil.

STEP TWO

Aerate! Soil naturally compacts over time. Aeration allows nutrients, air, and water to reach your lawns roots. It will also help to remove a small amount of thatch.

STEP THREE

Check your sprinklers! Is everything working properly? Is your grass getting ample coverage in all areas, and not too much coverage in others?

STEP FIVE

Apply a weed pre-emergent! It is best to get ahead of weeds before they germinate, sprout, or spread from your neighbors’ yard.

Pro-tip: find a weed preventer that attaches to your hose. This will help safeguard against over application and is easier to apply.

STEP SIX

Apply an insect repellent! Similar to the application of a good weed pre-emergent, it’s best to apply an insect repellent early in the season.

Pro tip: find an insect repellent that attaches to your hose. This will help safeguard against over application and is easier to apply.
